Real-Time Search a New Platform of Social Media

Google is starting to include live feeds from billions of web pages including Twitter, Facebook and MySpace and is already pushing hard on the live news and blog posts in its real time search engine.

In a statement, Google said: "Immediately after conducting a search, you´ll be able to see live updates from people on popular sites like Twitter and Friendfeed, as well as headlines from news and blog posts that have been published seconds ago." Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that its search engine Bing would also include real-time updates from Twitter and Facebook. This is a new platform for social media optimization.

This is expected to be fully implemented within the next several days. Experts say that the incorporation of real-time results in Google's ubiquitous search pages is a game-changer for online marketing professionals.

It must be noted, of course, that Google's main competition - Microsoft's Bing - already has a real-time search function with social media, but analysts say that the fact that Microsoft has offered Twitter search as a separate service limits its utility. Bing also indexes Facebook content in a similar way.

Yahoo will begin inserting Twitter posts directly into its general Web search results page, expanding on an initial integration of Twitter into its search engine. "Tweets" will now appear in a Twitter-labeled section within Web search results for queries related to what Yahoo algorithmically determines are hot topics at any given time in social media, said Larry Cornett, vice president of consumer experience at Yahoo Search.

All major search engines have been scrambling to incorporate feeds from social media sites like Twitter, which lets people and organizations post public text messages online.

Social Media - What is all about!

Social media is media designed to be advertise through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media uses Internet and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues into social media dialogues. It supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers into content producers.

Primarily, social media depend on interactions between people as the discussion and integration of words to build shared-meaning, using technology as a conduit. Social media optimization has been touted as presenting a fresh direction for marketing by allowing companies to talk with consumers, as opposed to talking at them.

Social media utilities create opportunities for the use of both inductive and deductive logic by their users. Claims or warrants are quickly transitioned into generalizations due to the manner in which shared statements are posted and viewed by all. The speed of communication, breadth, and depth, and ability to see how the words build a case solicits the use of rhetoric. Induction is frequently used as a means to validate or authenticate different users statements and words. Rhetoric is an important part of today’s language in social media.

Companies have begun to use social media to communicate with consumers. The audience can participate in social media by adding comments, instant messaging or even editing the stories themselves. The new Social media optimization tools and applications online have not only created new ways to communicate and collaborate, but have also opened up new job positions and careers, due to the unique convergence of technology, marketing, and social media.
